First Look: Hot Wheels Star Trek U.S.S. Vengeance...

I think this is the big battleship from the second of the new Star Trek movies.  The one that I think Sherlock Holmes stole to give to Ricardo Montalban by way of a time machine.  It is probably parked somewhere on Fantasy Island.

Needless to say, Hot Wheels did a miniature version of it, but it doesn't roll.  So it's not our bag, but we know a helluva a lot of you are interested in it.  So we decided to take a few pics.  As far as Hot Wheels Star Trek ships go, I like this one better than the Enterprise.  It is better looking, has a cool middle design, looks more details, and sits on an upgraded stand.  Mattel has made a stand that does not allow the model to rotate, and that makes it sit better.  No rolling off the stand and taking the form of a wounded bird (even though I photographed it that way).

So here is your big nerdy disk spaceship.  Enjoy the pics, and go get it on ebay...

First Look: Hot Wheels Pop Culture Star Trek 1988 Jeep Wagoneer...

I have exactly one Jeep in the Lamley collection.

Considering how many diecast Jeeps have been made, that is not a lot.  I am not what you would call a Jeep fan.  I can appreciate a good Jeep, especially its heritage, but other than that I am not much of a fan.

Except for the Wagoneer.  I love the Jeep Wagoneer.  The true godfather of the American SUV, it barely changed over its lifespan.  It is, and always will be, very easy on the eyes.

So we were very happy to see the Wagoneer debut in the Hot Wheels Boulevard line last year.  It wasn't easy to find, but worth making an effort to obtain.  Some didn't like the high stance, but other than that the model was fantastic.

Well, it has returned, this time in the Pop Culture line.  It doesn't have the cool wood paneling of the Boulevard, instead it is purple and has cartoons on it.  Maybe not ideal for the typical Lamley reader, but it is a casting we like, and we have, so we are showing it.

There is not much to say about the model.  The purpose of these seems to be to stay in the package.  The card artwork clearly stands out compared to the model.  That isn't why we collect, so we don't give the Pop Culture models too much creedence.  But this is a model we really like, so here it is...

Surprise! Hot Wheels Pop Culture Star Trek, Cool Classics Batch G is now out at Wheel Collectors...

Basic Batch G last week, Pop Culture and Cool Classics this week...

The truck dropped off some nice models at Wheel Collectors this week, and we thought we would share.

First up, the latest batch of Pop Culture, this time with a nostalgic Star Trek theme.  If we are honest, the models do little for us (but that might change once we have them in hand), but the card art is phenomenal.  That might be worth the price of admission here.  We will have to get a little info on who conceptualized this project.  Find all the models here:

Next, the latest batch of Cool Classics.  The highlight here is the '67 Camaro, but that is not a surprise.  It is bound to be very popular.  Find all of Batch G here:

First Look: Hot Wheels Star Trek Starship Enterprise NCC-1701 with battle damage...

Well, I did see the latest Star Trek, and the Enterprise did take on a little more damage than what is depicted here.  But at least it is a creative recolor of a very popular model.

Is there anything else I should say about this model?  I can't think of anything.  I have no problem with this being in the lineup, but I probably have more to say about cars.

Seriously, I am trying to write, but I've got nothing.

It is fun to photograph, so we might as well get to it...

(If you are having a hard time finding the Enterprise, you know where you can find it.  Maybe with the battle-damaged version out, the first version will be easier to acquire...)

First Look: Hot Wheels Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701...

Well, like last year's Batman "The Bat", we have another Hot Wheels model without wheels.  Some seem to be quite bothered by this.  Yes, not wheels makes it a bit difficult to race down the track.

But.

If you had an opportunity to further your foray into the world of entertainment licensing, creating a vehicle from one of the most popular movie franchises ever, wouldn't you?  Bat cars, spaceships, cartoon mystery vans, talking cars, you name it.  I'd do it.  Now ask if I would collect them.  The answer would probably be no.  ALTHOUGH, after seeing the list of upcoming Retro Entertainment cars, I might collect quite a few.  Ferrari 250 Californias and a slew of Minis will do that to a collector.

So, this lad has no problem with the Enterprise taking a spot in the basic lineup.  And the model is actually quite a neat little treat.  The stand on which the Enterprise sits shares the outline of the Starfleet emblem, and there is a decent amount of metal to give the model a little more weight than you would think.  So...winner in the Lamley book.

We were lucky enough to come across two of these on the pegs.  Unless Mattel follows the Angry Birds model and releases the Enterprise in several batches, those may be the only two we find.  It is bound to be a very popular model.  That is what you get when you have a model desired by both Hot Wheels collectors and maybe the most dedicated fans of all, Trekkies.  Good luck sharing the diecast aisle with them.  If you do want one, ebay might be a decent route...
