First Look: 2014 Matchbox Cadillac CTS Coupe (plus a look at all the Matchbox CTS models)...

There was a time that if I was asked what type of car I would never consider owning, I would answer Cadillac.  Cadillacs seemed so damn old.  So damn boring.  They tried to appeal younger, but failed with the horrific Catera.

Then they decided looks meant something.  Remember the second Matrix movie?  We may be used to the "Art & Science" design queues of the Cadillac now, but back then the CTS looked like nothing else.  And it kept getting better and better.  The second generation CTS advanced the look even more, and then they introduced the Wagon and Coupe.  All three looked like no other car, and were the purveyors of hope that not all cars were getting treacherously boring.  I would have never thunk it, but I was sold.

The third generation of the CTS is now out, and V and Coupe versions are coming, but the Wagon's days are apparently over.  That is a serious bummer, but it means the Wagon becomes an INSTANT classic.  You can see the day years down the line when a Japanese custom house dedicates itself solely to the CTS Wagon and you will see a line of them driven by SoCal hipsters racing down the 415 to the next big car show.

As much as I would love to buy a CTS-V Wagon right now and stow it away for later, and then put a first generation V Coupe next to it, it won't happen.  So at least we have the Matchbox models.  They may not be the V versions, but they are both fantastic castings.  The Wagon has sadly proven to be a bit of a pegwarmer, but there is not denying how nice it is.  It may end up being that model that everyone regrets not picking up when it was easy.

The Coupe?  Sadly underused.  It was introduced in 2011 in silver, appeared in a 2011 10-pack in black (a must-have if you don't have it), and then vanished.  We at Lamley scratched that itch in 2012 when we won a Mattel-donated Coupe preproduction model at auction at the Gathering Convention, but that was that.

Until now.  The CTS Coupe is back in the 2014 Mainline, and it looks super in burgundy.  It took awhile, but it is nice to see it back.  And we hope this is the first of a few new versions in the coming years.

So here is the latest version, together with the previous versions.  And for kicks, the Wagon as well...

Surprise!! Matchbox 2014 Batch F, including a new BMW bike, Mustang, and Cadillac, is now out at Wheel Collectors...

It has been a fun week.

One day after Hot Wheels Basic Batch K arrived, the folks at Wheel Collectors were paid another visit from Fedex, this time bringing goodies in the form of Matchbox 2014 Batch F and Monster Jam Batch K.

While we know nothing about Monster Jam, we are very excited to see the new Matchbox models.  This batch contains five new castings, including a new BMW bike that looks very cool, and recolors on the Seagrave Fire Truck, Cadillac CTS Coupe (a personal fave), and '68 Mustang.

You can see all the models by clicking below:

Our mail box is bound to explode over the next few days, and we will show it all next week.  What do you want to see first?

Just Released: 2014 Matchbox Land Rover Defender 110, Cadillac CTS Coupe, '68 Mustang GT/CS, Seagrave Fire Engine, and Morgan Aeromax...

Looks like the latest batch of Matchbox has hit the UK, and new 5- an 9-packs have hit the US.  There are a lot of models appearing, but we will only focus on those we find the most interesting.

We are most excited about is coming in the mainline.  Thanks to this ebay seller, we have the first images of the 2014 versions of the Cadillac CTS Coupe, Seagrave Fire Engine, and '68 Mustang:

The Mustang looks great in brown, as does the Seagrave in red (surprise!), but it is the CTS Coupe we are most happy about.  The Coupe has been a Matchbox fave around here, both in 1:1 scale and as a Matchbox model, but it has been sadly underused.  It was released in the 2011 mainline, recolored for the exclusives 10-pack that same year, and never heard from again.  Until now.  It looks fantastic in red, and we are thrilled to see it sitting on 5-spoke wheels.  Considering we have several of the first two colors, plus a prepro we won at a Mattel Charity auction, we might be picking up a decent number of the latest CTS Coupe...

Now on to the 5-packs.  Two have been released, a Construction 5-pack and one called "Jungle Recon".  We will focus on the Jungle Recon because of this:

The Land Rover Defender 110 is a collector fave, and this new version appears to be no exception.  Great color, wheels, and deco.  We found it on ebay here.

Lastly, new 9-car Gift Packs are out as well, and the exclusives are fantastic.  Our good friends over at the Diecast Bliss Blog (a blog very much worth checking out) broke the news, and are showing the first pics of the exclusive Morgan Aeromax and Ford F-100 Panel Van:

You can follow the link to the Diecast Bliss blog to see full pics of the Gift Packs.

Yes, we feel it too.  There is distinct buzz starting to emerge around the Matchbox line again.  A buzz we haven't heard in awhile.  There is still a lot that needs to happen to get that buzz to full volume, but we might be headed in the right direction.  This year's convention should be VERY interesting...

Cool is Cool is Cool: Auto World 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille...

Is there any argument about how cool this is?

The real car is as long as a football field, but only has two f*%#king doors.  You have to lean to change the radio station.  There are right turns you can't take.  If you just committed the robbery of the century, and the FBI was all over you, you sure as hell wouldn't buy one, or De Niro's wrath will reign its heavy hand.

Yeah it's a '79, but whatever.

Cool is Cool is Cool.  Bless you Auto World for this one.  The land yachts?  The wagons?  I am converting quickly...

First Look: All the Hot Wheels First-to-Market & Exclusive Colors from last week's Kdays...

I want one of those mail-in Drag Buses (maybe two).  Which means I have to open some cars in order to have some card backs to mail in.  Which means I have a lot of loose models.  Which means a few of those models are new.  Which means I can easily photograph them.

Which means I did.

The First-to-Markets:

Kool Kombi

Toyota AE86

The Exclusives:

Ford Galaxie

Dodge Challenger

Nissan Titan

Cadillac CTS-V

Yes, we forgot to get the First-to-Market Chevy Silverado.  Oops.  Instead enjoy pics of the reg and Super Sandblaster...
