Lamley News: First-ever Subaru set from Kyosho coming in June...

Say the words "Subaru" and "Kyosho" in the same sentence and you will surely get our attention.

With all amazing sets Kyosho has done in the past, from Skylines to Alfas to Astons to Porsche to Senna to Mazda to Ferrari, we have never seen a Subaru set.

It is finally happening.  Kyosho has announced the release of its first Subaru set, coming in June.  So if you are a Subie like me, you had better bookmark Daboxtoys and be ready for when it hits.

You had to know the Impreza and BRZ would make up most if the line, but we are very excited to see the Legacy wagon and especially the SVX.  (And we have to think there is a certain designer at Mattel who might be slightly excited as well.  You know who you are, and we are waiting for that Hot Wheels version...)  We are curious to know what you are excited for as well.

This will be a set we will surely feature here, so stay tuned.  In the meantime, get those fingers ready to reserve a few from Daboxtoys...

Model of the Day: Kyosho Porsche 934...

Partly to celebrate two years of existence, partly to keep today's Porsche theme going, partly to give Kyosho some love, partly because we love this model, partly to whet your appetite for the upcoming Hot Wheels version, and partly to make you jealous, we present Kyosho's take on the splendid Porsche 934.

Enjoy...

(By the way, Daboxtoys still has several Kyosho 1:64 Porsches available.  Some surely worth getting...)

First Look: Kyosho/Triple 9 Honda NSX Type-R Daboxtoys Exclusive...

We just got a box from Daboxtoys, and it is full of 1:64 goodies.  Over the next few days we hope to show most of what arrived, but we will start with this very cool Honda NSX Type-R.

Kyosho rarely does special edition models, but this NSX is one of them.  Done together with UK-based diecast company Triple 9, this is the NSX casting that was part of the Kyosho Honda line from a few years ago.  What the purpose is for making this model, we have no idea.  What we do know is that it looks great in red, and there are not many 1:64 scale models of the fantastic NSX.

That is why we were happy to get one from Daboxtoys.  Afterwards we learned that Daboxtoys has exclusive rights to sell this model, and once it is sold out, it ain't coming back.

So if you are like us, and have wanted a 1:64 replica of the NSX, now might be a great time, especially considering Daboxtoys has marked down the price for a limited time.  You can find it by clicking on the following link:

Model of the Day: Kyosho BMW 2002 Turbo...

The Lamley offices are getting a major upgrade next week...

Finally, after several weeks, our custom-made 1:64 diecast displays are arriving.  We commissioned Carney Plastics to custom build some special displays for us, and they arrive next week.  The word from Carney is that these are beautiful, and we can't wait to show you what they did.  That will come soon.

But we are mentioning this because soon we will have to make the decision on what models to display and what models to leave in storage.  It might be an OCD-inducing project on our part, but at least we know of a few models that will undoubtedly be displayed.  The first model going into the display is my favorite 1:64 model, the Kyosho Beads Tokyo Auto Show Kenmeri Skyline GT-R (one of which is on ebay at the moment), and the next two are the two gems we are featuring today, the white and silver Kyosho BMW 2002 Turbos.

Any car nerd has given a ton of thought to what would be his or her dream garage.  I tend to think in terms of three, so what cars would make up my dream 3-car garage?  Hard to say, but I know there would be a classic Skyline of some sort (I'm not picky), and there would be a BMW 2002 Turbo.  (The third is totally up for grabs, but key terms doing battle are "wagon", "pickup", and "vintage 911".  I will get back to you.)

So yes, I hold the 2002 Turbo in very high regard.  Putting on my best Jeremy Clarkson voice, I would say that "in terms of looks, heritage, and performance, it's the greatest BMW.............ever made."

So I was rather pleased when a good friend and collecting mentor from Japan was able to help me acquire these two very-hard-to-find gems from Kyosho.  They pop up on ebay occasionally, but usually end up selling at very high prices.  I ended up paying a hefty sum, but for me it was totally worth it.

Kyosho has captured the 2002 Turbo perfectly, with its forward slant and wide fenders, as well as the "look what's coming" reversed lettering on the chin and BMW side racing stripes.

So we thought you would enjoy going into the weekend ogling over what we consider one of the best duo's of 1:64 diecast ever done.
