First Look: Kyosho/Triple 9 Honda NSX Type-R Daboxtoys Exclusive...

We just got a box from Daboxtoys, and it is full of 1:64 goodies.  Over the next few days we hope to show most of what arrived, but we will start with this very cool Honda NSX Type-R.

Kyosho rarely does special edition models, but this NSX is one of them.  Done together with UK-based diecast company Triple 9, this is the NSX casting that was part of the Kyosho Honda line from a few years ago.  What the purpose is for making this model, we have no idea.  What we do know is that it looks great in red, and there are not many 1:64 scale models of the fantastic NSX.

That is why we were happy to get one from Daboxtoys.  Afterwards we learned that Daboxtoys has exclusive rights to sell this model, and once it is sold out, it ain't coming back.

So if you are like us, and have wanted a 1:64 replica of the NSX, now might be a great time, especially considering Daboxtoys has marked down the price for a limited time.  You can find it by clicking on the following link:

First Look: Hot Wheels Acura NSX Concept...

The 25-year threshold for a Japanese car to achieve classic status is an appropriate cut-off.  If anything, it creates a certain anticipation for a old favorite to to finally be able to pass through the gates at the Japanese Classic Car Show and finally get its due.  And as you get older, more and more cars that you grew up with start becoming classics.

So, like many JDM enthusiasts, there are a few cars that I am excited to see pass through the gate.  Some have a year or two to wait (Nissan 300ZX Z32), others quite awhile (Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R).

But above those two is one car I cannot wait to see make classic status - the Acura/Honda NSX.  While I spent the 90's like every other kid my age ogling over the Porsche 959, Lamborghini Countach, and Ferrari Testarossa (Decisions, Decisions, Decisions).  Then 1990 arrived, as did the Acura NSX.  I remember for the first time noticing that while car screamed supercar, and lines seemed a little more simple than those over-the-top 80's monsters.  The "less-is-more" design aesthetic started making sense to me, and the Acura seemed to hit all the marks with me.

I still have a soft spot for that car, and would love to see one of the two Mattel brands take it on.  Of course Hot Wheels has done the Super GT version, but that model essentially eliminated all that I loved about the design of the NSX.  One day it is bound to happen, maybe in 2015 when the NSX finally achieves its classic status.

So the name NSX carries quite the Legacy (get it?) with many folks.  The body style as we know it was discontinued in 2005, and some thought the HSC Concept would be its replacement.  Thankfully it wasn't, and now we have the new NSX Concept that will go into production in 2015.  While lacking the charm of the original, the new NSX is a very nice-looking car, and utilizes the current Acura design queues nicely.  I like it, although there is a side of me that thinks the NSX name should stay with the original.  But count me a fan.

Which takes us to the Hot Wheels version.  A+.  The right color, the right wheels, front and rear tampos.  It may not be a candidate for collector's favorite model this year, but it surely should get votes for best executed model.  A true winner, and if future versions look like this one, they will easily go into the collection.  Ah, who am I kidding.  A good-looking Japanese car...it's in...

Surprise! Hot Wheels Batch L is now available at Wheel Collectors...

We will interrupt our regularly scheduled Matchbox Monday to let you all know that Hot Wheels Batch L is now out at Wheel Collectors.  Matt and the gang were very surprised to see the shipment show up today, and called us here to let us know.

Unlike the lackluster Batch K, Batch L is a doozy, starting with the brand new Pagani Huayra and Acura NSX Concept.  Those who have seen these two up-close say they are both beautifully done.  We will be able to see them soon, and will be sure to post First Looks as soon as we have them.  We will also have to check out the new Batmobile.

We are also excited to see a recolor of the Toyota Celica in yellow and Kool Kombi in white.

Check out the entire Batch at Wheel Collectors, and take advantage of their Spring Sale and one-day shipping.  Follow the link below to see all the models:

It is via these connections that our overseas friends are sharing their Batch K finds, and we have the first images of the brand new Hot Wheels Acura NSX Concept.

The model looks to be done very well.  The wheels are the same size, the proportions look right, and from what we can tell that unique Acura grill is very well done.  We cannot wait to get this in hand and give it the full Lamley treatment...
