First Look: Hot Wheels Batmobile (Michael Keaton's Batman version)...

Well it appears that Hot Wheels is trying to build the entire pantheon of Batmobiles.  Starting with George Barris's all the way through to the Christian Bale Batman, with every movie, tv, and cartoon Batmobile along the way.  We have no idea how many there are, and how many Hot Wheels still has to do.

Well, strangely enough, there has not been the Batmobile from the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton Batman movies in the mainline.  That changes now, with this new casting coming in Batch L.

Plastic body, metal base.  Doesn't bother us, but I know it bothers some.

We are surely not Batmobile experts here at Lamley, so we will leave the comments up to you.  What do you think?  How does it rank compared to the other Batmobiles?  Which is your favorite?

The Leftovers: This week's finds, variations, and other models that didn't make the cut...

Week 2 of the Leftovers.  I think last week there was more to show, especially with my first Super find since before Christmas.  This week most of my finds came towards the end, as my schedule was quite busy and did not permit me to hit a lot of stores earlier.  I still did pretty well.

On Friday I found myself near a couple of Walmarts that I normally don't visit, so I had a look.  I am glad I did.

Both stores had pretty picked-over Bins of Death, and you could tell by the condition of the cards that these bins had been thoroughly picked over by quite a few hands.  So how they missed these two errors is beyond me:

No-side-tampos Classic Batmobile:

All-small-wheels Nova Wagon:

The no-side-tampo Batmobile stuck out like a sore thumb.  It is a very unique find, and one you would think would have been discovered by the Hunt-seekers.  But alas, they might have been a little too focused on finding Hunts.  The all-small-wheels Nova Wagon could be a little harder to spot, but luckily it was hanging out on the top of the pile and I was able to see it right away.

That second Walmart also yielded the next batch of Retro Entertainment:

Lastly, a First Look that I never got to, the blue Subaru WRX STI, with both wheel variations.  I think both the 10sp and MC5 will be fairly common.  10sp is the early run and MC5 the later.

Hot Wheels Variation Alert: Mainline Classic Batmobile with Retro Entertainment Batmobile deco...

Occasionally we get word of a variation that we think is worth reporting here on the blog, and this one definitely qualifies.

Brazilian Hot Wheels collector Eduardo Guanaes found these two mainline Batmobiles and wanted some clarification on why they were different:

It might be hard to see at first, but the bottom Batmobile has no grey trim like the one up top.  The Batmobile released this year has the grey trim.  It is easier to see up top:

Well, one could argue that this is simply an error, where the grey was omitted by mistake.  It happens.  But once you look at the front and back another idea emerges.  Once again, the correct basic model is pictured first:

Front:

Back:

Front and rear red trim, which is not supposed to be there, but looks awfully familiar:

Yes, the bottom model in Eduardo pics is the basic Classic Batmobile with the deco of the Retro Entertainment Batmobile that was released at about the same time.

Switcheroos have been more and more common lately, and a similar switch happened last year, when a small number of mainline Mystery Machines appeared with the more detailed deco of the Comic Con release.

As far as errors/variations go, this is a good one.  A variation like this is cool on any model, but when it happens on a Batmobile, it is on a completely different level.

So keep your eyes open.  Kroger stores have shippers full of Batmobiles, so if they are nearby I would go looking.  Maybe someone will be as lucky as Eduardo.

Let us know if you do get lucky...

And I would check the ebay listings, sometimes one shows up that no one knows about (although I haven't checked this batch of listings...)

First Look: Hot Wheels Retro Entertainment KITT and Batmobile...

It is the weekend, and I normally don't like to do First Looks.  Mattel has made that a bit difficult, however, considering they threw Matchbox 60th B and Boulevard L our way so quickly.  Those models are more "Lamley-esque", and will get the premium weekday spots.  So that leaves me the weekend to show some others.

Those others are none other than two of the Retro Entertainment models, KITT and the classic Batmobile.  While not completely my cup of tea, I have for the most part enjoyed the entertainment-themed models that Hot Wheels has thrown into the mainline the last few years.  Clearly when they threw the classic Batmobile into the lineup several years ago and watched prices exceed $200 for the initial releases, they knew they had an idea worth generating.  Since then we have seen the Back to the Future Delorean, KITT, the Ecto-1, A-Team Van, and on and one.  I would put KITT at the top for me, and throw cartoon models like the Mystery Machine and Flinstones car near the bottom.  But there is no denying all of these models are popular.

All this is culminating with a fantastic new set, Retro Entertianment, that will give most of these entertainment-themed models the premium treatment, including real riders and pretty cool packaging.  Plus we get to see other "non-entertainment" castings put on their Hollywood duds for the series, none more anticipated here than the Ferrari 308 made up to house that handsome mustached feller Magnum PI.

We will start with KITT and the Batmobile today.  They are two models you can't upgrade too much from their basic versions, but the real riders, metal bases, and extra details to make them worth getting.  I imagine this series will be a hot seller...

Just In: Hot Wheels Retro Entertainment is available at Wheel Collectors...

It has been a little dry on the New Models front, but it appears that will change soon.  Word is that Boulevard will be out soon, and that means the 510 Wagon we have all been waiting for is around the corner.

And here is the first sign.  Hot Wheels Retro Entertainment Batch A is out, and our good friends over at Wheel Collectors have it.  The models are all upgraded from their basic range outfits and shoes, and the packaging is insanely cool.  I have to say I am partial to KITT, but all four look great.  We have these headed our way here at Lamley, and we promise to give them the proper DLM treatment...

For now, pick up the Retro Entertainment at Wheel Collectors, and be sure to mention "Lamley" to get a 10% discount...
