We are done with 2013.  We have showcased all the Supers from what turned out to be a stellar year.  So let's take one last look at the 15 by way of the "coming tomorrow" photos we posted at the end of each post during the last three weeks.

And here we are, finally to the last Super TH of 2013.  We haven't shown the Demon on Lamley before, as we finally got one after starting this feature 15 days ago.

So, as usual, we have one in hand, and after a less-than-stellar reaction when it was first announced, it is growing on us.  But that is what Super TH's do.  So once we have moved away from the freshness of the Demon Super, we think it will settle somewhere in the bottom 5 of our Super TH list this year.

But that does not mean it isn't good-looking.  There are just better Supers this year.  We will see where it ranks when we do the Lamley awards.  I could be way off, but I think it will fall somewhere towards the bottom for most.  And yes, Mopar fans, we aren't ignoring you.  But c'mon, the Demon is not a Challenger, or Cuda, or Charger.  Right?

So it has been a good 15-day-run.  Super Treasure Hunts these days are just simply pretty, and to me 2013 is the best-looking batch so far.  My guess is 2014 might surpass it, but what do I know?

Like the Tundra, it has not been that long since we showcased the 07 Mustang, so no need to go too in depth now.

But let's say this.  If at the beginning of the year someone were to give me the list of 2013 Super Treasure Hunts and ask me to rank them sight unseen, the Top 5 would look something like this:

Looking at the list I don't think the '07 Mustang would have made the Top 10.  But now with all 15 in hand, here is my Top 5:

4. Ford Gran Torino Sport
5. '67 Camaro

Look at that?  #2 for the green Mustang, and the one I thought I would like, the Super Snake, actually doesn't make the Top 10.  Crazy, eh?

The '07 looks great, both as a regular and Super.  Sometimes it takes a nice version of a model for someone to appreciate it, and now I find myself looking for previous versions of the casting, namely the Modern Classics, where it debuted.  And surprise, it is another Jun Imai casting.  There aren't many of his creations I don't like.

And did I find this one?  Yes, surprisingly at the beginning of August while visiting with a friend in Phoenix.  We hit a couple of Walmarts on the outskirts of the area and came across P cases while looking for M.  Why these P case dump bins were there a month early I have no idea, but I was not going to argue.  I brought two of the Supers home..

The Tundra.  A truck I like because it is a Toyota, and I don't like because I am much more fond of small trucks.  A Super Treasure Hunt I would not like because of the busy deco, but that I do like because the busy deco works.  I tried not to like this one, but there is no denying this is a very good-looking Super Treasure Hunt.

Since we are now looking at the last three Super TH's of 2013, the Tundra and tomorrow's '07 Mustang are models I have written about recently, so I will refer you to those articles.  But I will say, both were fun to photograph a second time, and they look just as good.

Did I find this Super?  Yes I did.  In fact I found two.  In a dump bin at about 10 in the morning.  It was hidden behind the bikes, and I got lucky.  This was 3 days after I found the '07 Mustang Super in another untouched dump bin.  That was a good week.

There are a lot of overrated Hot Wheels models, depending on the perspective you come from.  For me personally, many of the nostalgic models that get longtime collectors giddy do nothing for me.  I could care less about redlines, which in turn makes me care less about RLC models sporting the Neo wheels, which in turn makes me care less about models that hearken back to the old days of Hot Wheels.

That is why I feel that Hot Wheels golden age is now.  Real-looking models, excellent choices, and fantastic decos.  And yes, I might be slightly swayed by the heavy prevalence of JDM models in the lineup, but we are all biased, aren't we?

So I hold nothing against redline and nostalgic collectors.  One of my favorite collectors out there, famously known as "doomus" on HWC, is one of those nostalgic collectors who totally prefers Neos to any other Hot Wheels wheel, and he knows that I am exactly the opposite.  

So what does this have to do with the '67 Camaro?  Well, the '67 is one of those nostalgic castings.  Yes, there are a lot of Camaro fans out there, but strictly a Camaro standpoint there are far better classic Camaro castings that Hot Wheels has done.  So it has to be something else, and that something else is that it is a classic Hot Wheels casting.  It warms the hearts of many a classic collector, and that excitement makes it an immensely popular casting.  If Hot Wheels has any rules, it is that the '67 Camaro will show up every year in some line, just as the Drag Bus and, more recently, the Blown Delivery will appear in the RLC lines.  If those models get skipped, riots full of angry old white men in ill-fitting Hot Wheels t-shirts would most certainly erupt.

Being a "non-nostalgic" collector, I don't share that excitement that others exude.  I own one Drag Bus (the FE), and hope to own the RLC Gulf model (more for Gulf livery than for the model), and more for the sake of this post, I have exactly ONE '67 Camaro in the collection.

And that one '67 Camaro?  The one pictured here.

Forget that it is a Super Treasure Hunt, forget that it is the iconic '67 Camaro.  It is a great-looking model.  The simplicity of the deco, the real riders, and the grey/black color make this one a fun model to photograph, as well as a must-have for the collection.

There is no doubt that this will be at the top of many "Best Super" lists at the end of the year, and by golly it may be based more on looks than on what casting it is.  We can't ignore how cool it is, and if it wasn't for the uniqueness of the Toyota 2000GT, the drop-dead good looks of the '62 Corvette, and menacing stance of the '07 Mustang, this would be a Top 3 model on the Lamley list.  That is saying a lot coming from someone who really doesn't hold the '67 in the high regard that others do...
