First Look: Hot Wheels Zamac '69 Camaro Walmart Mail-In Exclusive...

I had a good day at the mailbox yesterday.

Four packages.  Three containing '83 Silverados I have been after (more on that next week), and one containing two Zamac '69 Camaros, courtesy of Walmart.

The Hot Wheels Rewards site is, in theory, a fabulous idea.  And for the most part, it has worked like a charm.  If you haven't joined, and you live in the US, you should.  All you do is photograph your Walmart receipt, upload the photo to the website, and it calculates the points you earned and adds them to your account.  Once you have enough points, you can order special items, including last year's Zamac School Busted and this year's Zamac '69 Camaro.  No mailing in cardbacks, receipts, or a check for shipping and handling.  You select what you want, and it is sent to you.

Of course, there are some issues.  First, this should be a smartphone app.  Why it isn't yet is strange, but it is bound to happen, I think.  Second, the reader sometimes has trouble with large receipts.  If you buy, for example, 50 models at a time, you surely want those points.  Expect the reader to reject your photo, but you can at least contact customer service and they are good about awarding the points you deserve.

So with all that, join, and go get one of these Camaros.  If you want, of course.  We can show you the pics, and you decide.  And in case you are wondering, it has a plastic base (not a surprise after the Kmart mail-in Chevelle), and it doesn't roll.  The rolling thing is a bummer, but not a surprise.  The Boulevard version of the 69 had the same problem.  So, because of that, the all-black multipack version remains my favorite.

Model of the Day: Hot Wheels multipack exclusive '69 Camaro...

I am sure each of you reading this has seen this model, most likely in person.  I am sure many of you actually own it.

I have been debating buying this model for some time, but couldn't justify the $10 cost to get one in a 9-pack.  So I figured the time would come when there would be a 9-pack with some vari or something that I really wanted, and hopefully the Camaro would be in there.  It finally happened, when I found an OH5 RX-7, so I finally have the Camaro to photograph.

This casting has never been a fave.  I won't disagree with anyone who makes the claim that the '69 Camaro is one of the great American cars ever, I just don't like this particular casting.  That is until this version came out.  Supers, convertibles, convertible Supers, Premiums, Toy Fair models be damned.  This model looks better than all of them.  Every single one.

So we decided to show it off.

First Look: 2014 Hot Wheels Chevy Corvette Stingray & Camaro ZL1 Concept...

Batch H just is just hitting Walmarts this week, and we have been procrastinating our First Looks.  News has been running rampant and we seem to be falling behind a bit.  But there are some great-looking models in this batch and they deserve some attention.

So we will combine the two Chevys into one post, and we start with the 2014 Corvette Stingray in gunmetal grey.  We are happy Hot Wheels has decided to keep this model devoid of side tampos in its second year of existence.  That may be Chevrolet's request, but we hope it continues, at least for a few recolors this year.

There are only two Hot Wheels Corvette castings we collect in full - the Greenwood Corvette (one of our favorite Hot Wheels models in general), and the '69 COPO.  The others are more here and there.  We assume that will be the same with the 2014 Stingray, but not until they change up the design.

We are now seeing the actual 2014 Vette on the streets, and we have to admit it is quite the looker.  For me, it is a major step up from the last few generations of Vettes, although I remain partial to the 70's design.  The Hot Wheels follows suit, and is a good-looking, substantial casting.

Next up is the ZL1 Camaro.

Like the Stingray, the ZL1 is my favorite of the 5G Camaro HW castings, and there are a ton of them.  It has a menacing stance, it is wide but not-too-wide, and sits parallel to the ground.  Little details yes, but important in our little nerdy world.

We have seen it as a SEMA exclusive, as a Toy Fair model, a Zamac, and Team Hot Wheels model, but the mini-set we like the best is the set of four 2012 New Model colors:

You can't beat these four.  But the latest version almost matches them.  The design is nice, but we love the fact that this model features the logo of one of our favorite car websites, Speedhunters.  If you don't visit that site daily, you really should.

So we like the white, and the design, and the logo.  And we are looking forward to a few more Speedhunters-dedicated models.  Should be fun...
