A Complete Look: Hot Wheels Aston Martin DBS...

We have already done two posts today on the Hot Wheels Aston Martin DBS, so why not a third?

With the Retro Entertainment James Bond version in gunmetal grey hitting pegs soon, and the jet black Mystery model out in Europe and New Zealand, we thought we would give you an update on all versions and variations so far, in case you wanted them all.

Some are still easy to find, others pretty rare, but all together each version makes for a great model to collect.  Many you can find on ebay.

So without further ado, the Hot Wheels Aston Martin DBS, front first to most recent:

2010 New Models

2010 New Models with PR5 (rare)

2012 Faster Than Ever

2012 Faster Than Ever with 10-spokes (found in target holiday packs.  rare)

2012 Faster Than Ever recolor

2012 Faster Than Ever chrome trap-5 wheels (Found in 9-packs.  rare)

2012 Faster Than Ever recolor with 10sp (found in 9-packs.  rare)

2013 Mainline

2013 Mainline recolor

2014 Mystery Models

2014 Retro Entertainment

That is the list, but don't forget the variations:

So, who has them all?

Will the latest batch of Hot Wheels Mystery Bag Cars make it to the US? Maybe not...

Mystery cars have now become a common part of the Hot Wheels basic lineup.  It started with mainline cars hidden behind blacked out blisters, then it moved to foil baggies.

The foil bag cars are no longer official mainline cars, but rather recolors of previous models and decos, similar to what you will see in 9- and 10-packs.  Some models have been tremendous (the Kroger-only Super Speeders line comes to mind), while others sit and sit and sit.

That shelf-warming tendency of the latest batch has led to a lot of boxes of mystery models hanging around each and every Walmart, which has the exclusive rights to carry them.  Plus the models included in that batch have not garnered a ton of excitement.

Even with that, our interest was sparked when a collector out of Germany reported finding new mystery cars in a local store.  Like the Walmart batch, it included 12 models:

We were especially interested when one of the mystery models was a Lamley favorite, the Aston Martin DBS, in jet black.  So even with the last Walmart batch of mysteries clogging the shelves, we figured the next batch would show in time.  So we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

But then, during a routine weekend check-in with the Team of 3 at Diecast TV Channel on youtube, we saw that they too had found the mystery cars, including the Aston.  That could mean they were close to hitting the US.  So we continued to wait.

And continued.

And continued.

And continued.

Until we gave in.  We are fans of Diecast TV Channel (And you should be too.  Their videos clear, concise, and maybe the best produced of all youtube diecast channels.  It is like a quick weekly diecast newscast.  HIGHLY recommended.), and have chatted with the Team of 3 before, and after a few emails back and forth, worked out a trade to get three of the new Mystery models over to Lamley.

So we are happy to have three, and they are below, but the question remains: Will we see these in the US?  The answer could very well be no.

These could very well be international exclusives, made to be the equivalent of the current batch of mysteries at Walmart, only for non-US markets.  The follow the same pattern as other mystery cars, sharing the same deco as mainline versions of the same casting, only in different colors.

Or these could be slated for US release, but delayed because of the slow-moving batch ahead of it.  That could very well mean Walmart won't want the next batch, which could leave those models in limbo, and unofficially make them international-only models.

Only time will tell, but in the meantime we are happy to have secured these three - the aforementioned Aston Martin, a Pontiac GTO, and Lamborghini Reventon.  The Aston especially is fantastic in black.  Grey rims would have made it even better, but we are not complaining.  We are happy to have the HW DBS collection complete.  A hearty thank you to the Team of 3 for their help.  They have some good stuff coming their way in return...

So what do you think?  International only?  Coming to the US?  Do you even care?

In Her Majesty's Secret Service: The Hot Wheels James Bond Aston Martin 1963 DB5 and DBS...

There is absolutely no reason to explain the importance of Aston Martin to James Bond.  Bond is cool, but that is for another blog.  We don't even need to go into how cool Bond's cars are.  That goes without saying.

All we need to do today is show both Aston Martins that Hot Wheels has just released at the exact same time, both 007-themed.

We have said it before, but now is a great time to say it again.  While the nostalgic factor of these entertainment-themed cars is fun on some level, it is more the cars themselves that pique our interest. Thank goodness there have been a lot of cool cars featured in television and movies, and Mattel has a deep well-full of go-to autos for the Retro Entertainment and basic lines.  However these castings get made, having the models themselves is what makes these great.

So with that, here are two fantastic Aston Martins, one classic and one current, that have both been featured in James Bond movies.  The DB5 will be part of the Retro Entertainment line, but that treatment comes later.  Right now it is really just a recolor of the original DB5, released earlier this year in British Racing Green.  While BRG is a signature British color, silver might be the signature DB5 color, so at this point it is our favorite of the two.

The DBS gets the premium treatment for the first time, which frankly does not happen to supercars that often.  That is nice.  Metal base and real riders, and it looks great.  It may not have the classic lines of the DB5, but as far as current cars go, the DBS is as pretty as it gets, and Hot Wheels did it right with this one.

So celebrate the Bondishness of these two, or don't.  What we hopefully agree on is the fact that these are two beautiful models, and hopefully you will find a way to add both to your collection...

(Find both Astons at Wheel Collectors...)
