The Lamley Group Blog is 2-years-old today. That is really not a lot of time, but since that first post things have continued and will continue to evolve. We had no idea where it would go, but no one would have predicted it would be how Lamley is currently constituted.
Ultimately, it would be nothing without our readers. You guys are loyal, honest, enthusiastic, opinionated, and, thrillingly, from all over the world. That is what keeps us putting these posts together. (Well, your enthusiasm coupled with your incessant bitching when we don't have a post up on time. I kid.)
Here is another reason why we really like out readers:
You love cars. You love collecting mini cars, but it is rooted in your love for real cars. Sure, everyone wants to know what is coming, and whether they can find Snoopy in the stores, but you are not here if you don't love cars.
And that is why we wanted to show the latest color of the Hot Wheels Porsche 993 GT2
today. It is a model we love, because it is a mini version of a car we love. And going back to our original point, if we didn't have the blog, and you readers weren't paying attention and commenting, we wouldn't know all we now know about it.When we first revealed the white Porsche 993, we presented our view that Hot Wheels was basing the casting and current deco on the creations of Nakai-san and Rauh Welt. The casting has all the signs of an RWB beauty - low stance, wide fenders, and in this specific case, white paint, black trim, and gold rims. We were convinced.
That is until reader and frequent contributor Black Wind commented and pointed out that this was clearly the 993 GT2 Evo. And gosh-darn it, he is right:
And it makes sense. The Evo is a factory-built racer, created for the GT1-series, and it makes sense for Hot Wheels to go that route. We can let Speedhunters tell you about it. The details are there, not only in the casting, but in the deco.
So is it a salute to the genius that is RWB? Of course, indirectly in the same way that RWB's are a salute not only to the 911 itself, but to the design queues of the 993 GT2. The perfect car should never be changed, only enhanced.
This model is brilliant. The first thing you notice is the quality of the paint. White on a Hot Wheels car can sometimes be a poor proposition, but this smooth matte paint look amazing. Trust us, you will be impressed.
So to celebrate the 2-year anniversary of our real-car-homage-paying-through-mini-car-collecting blog, we will show a model of a car that we know a lot more about because of the contributions of our readers. We love love LOVE that.
