First Look: Hot Wheels '55 Chevy Gasser Super Treasure Hunt...
In the real car and mini car collecting worlds, there are always a few cars or models that transcend whatever collecting subgroups we might fancy. In our Hot Wheels world, the RLC BRE Datsun is a great example. Yes, the classic racing crowd was giddy with its release, as was the JDM crowd. But there were plenty others who just recognized the model for what it is:
Just plain cool.
The cool cars might technically fall into a particular category, but they are appreciated by a much larger group. In our world, the Hot Wheels '55 Chevy Gasser falls into that category. When it was released last year, it seemed everyone was excited about it. It was surely a well executed casting, but more importantly there is something about it that makes you want to keep it, no matter what other cars are in the collection.
I don't know THE FIRST THING about gassers, except for what I have read after adding the Gasser to the collection. And that is one of the great things about our hobby. It took a cool Gasser casting to introduce me to that car culture, just as many others are being introduced to bosozoku by way of the Mad Manga, the history of Brock Racing Enterprises through the RLC 510 (especially after all the buzz surrounding the autographed 1-46), or the fantastic work of Rauh Welt by way of the Porsche 993.
So back to the Gasser. Based on the buzz surrounding its debut in 2013, it seemed highly likely that we would see the model as a Super, and Hot Wheels wasted no time. The next year, it's here, and it looks fantastic. A beautiful classic racer, with ISKY Racing Cams racing deco, with a very cool racing stripe right down the middle. Not to mention great wheels (have these been used on a Super before?).
I think we are looking at the early frontrunner for Best Super of 2014, even with two fantastic Mustangs already released. There are still a lot more to come, but this one will be VERY popular.
What does everyone think?
