Matchbox Monday First Look: Porsche 911 Turbo in Purple...

As promised, Matchbox Monday* is all about the current Porsche 911 Turbo casting.  And like I said in the previous post, in my opinion this model is one of the best sports car castings Matchbox has ever done.

That is especially remarkable considering this model was essentially born and reared during the dreaded Hero City days at Matchbox.  While Matchbox was churning our whistles with wheels, the 911 Turbo remained that one string that kept Matchbox linked to realism until Mattel finally figured it out and started producing real-looking stuff again in 2004-2005.

This casting took a backseat to the 911 GT2 casting when it debuted in 2007, but continued to make the occasional 10-pack appearance.  Well it has returned strongly in 2012 with two versions - one in the Police 5-pack, and now in the mainline.

The funny thing?  One is a recolor of the other.  Both have the exact same deco, with the obvious color and wheel differences.  It doesn't bother me, and actually makes for a nice duo.  I do wonder if something else was slated for the Police 5-pack, and the Porsche was a late replacement.   Maybe I can find out...
