An Addition to the October Matchbox Ambassador Report: 2013 Toy Fair Routemaster Bus...
As some have noticed, the 2013 Toy Fair Matchbox exclusive has been released. I asked Matchbox Design Manager Dave Weiss if he had one to show off. Dave obliged, so here you have the first clear look of this model in all its golden glory.
The Toy Fair models are not available to the public, but used as a promotional tool for the brand. The model will always reflect the current direction of the Matchbox brand, and normally will feature a brand new or recently released tool. This one is obviously different, as the Routemaster Bus was released in 2006.
Like the 60th Anniversary Line, the Bus was chosen to pay homage to the past, present, and future of Matchbox. The bus is gold VUM (similar to the Ambassador Bus), and features full murals on all four sides that cover both the body and windows, and don't forget that massive Union Jack on the roof. The Bus does all the talking, as the case comes completely clear of markings.
This will be a big year for the bus, as it is also included in the 60th Anniversary Line, both as a regular and chase model. You Routemaster/Double Decker collectors might have to get a little creative to emerge from 2013 with all three...
As always, these photos are used with permission from Mattel.
